Afrigator.com is our flagship product which is Africa's largest social media aggregator and blog directory and has won critical acclaim world-wide.

Afrigator is a social media aggregator and directory built especially for African digital citizens who publish and consume content on the Web.

You can use Afrigator to index your blog, podcast, videocast or news site (i.e. any site that publishes an RSS feed) and market it to the rest of Africa and the world. You can also use it to discover new sites in the Afrosphere.

Afrigator attempts to use social media tools and technologies to showcase the best digital content that the African continent has to offer, ranging from syndicated news feeds to blog posts, podcasts, videos and images. We invite citizen publishers with African content (or based on the African continent) to submit their sites and then we send clicks back to them. We also scan the Web for African-related tags and aggregate that content in the site.

Content is divided by country channels, by category (we’ve developed an organic categorisation algorithm that sorts content into single or multiple categories by scanning it as it’s pulled into the site) and finally by content type. One would be able to filter audio content of a business theme originating from Nigeria, as an example. Our goal is to include geotagging to drill down search possibilities even further and improve our data on where our content is coming from.

We built the platform from scratch and in September 2008 MIH Print Africa (Pty) Ltd, a division of Naspers Limited, acquired a stake in Afrigator.

Our dream is that Afrigator will evolve into the first choice destination for anyone wanting to get a taste of the social vibe on the African continent at any given point. We’d also like to use the site to build useful data around social media users and producers in Africa.

Afrigator has already enjoyed a fair amount of success with a steady 25% month-on-month growth rate and the wonderful accolade of having being listed as #20 of 31 “top non-US startups to watch worldwide” by Business 2.0 (money.cnn.com).

In December 2008 Afrigator was voted as one of the Top 10 International Products for 2008 and received an honourable mention in the Top 10 RSS and Syndication Products of 2008 by ReadWriteWeb and both these accolades appeared in the New York Times Technology section as well.

We’ve also featured on ReadWriteWeb, VentureBeat, Go2Web20, KillerStartups.com and received press coverage in the Financial Mail, FinWeek, The Times, Intelligence Magazine and Bizcommunity to name but a few.

Adgator is a pioneering blog advertising network that connects advertisers and bloggers together to enable unique targeting opportunities.

Adgator is a unique blog advertising network tailored specifically for South Africa. We’ve hand picked all of the top South African blogs to participate.

This network is extremely powerful and reaches some of the most influential readers in the world. The Adgator blog network serves over 5.6 million page views each month and you will reach no less than 1.7 million unique people through the network.

For the first time ever, Adgator brings bloggers and advertisers together in a single place and provides you with a unique opportunity to target advertising across many levels. As an advertiser you are able to target individual blogs as well as category specific niches giving you the flexibility to work within your budget and target market.

This network of blogs, while small in individual reach, is extremely powerful as a combined force and Adgator helps monetise all the blogs on the network in a way that simply was not possible before.

Adgator is transparent, provides real-time data via a personal control panel and has dedicated sales teams to sell inventory across the network. This is the single biggest advance in blogging in South Africa in recent times.

Gatorpeeps is Afrigator's micro-blogging service that connects other Afrigator users together through short updates and community interaction.

Gatorpeeps is all about connecting users from Africa together and features a status update box that allows you to post a comment to the community.

One of the key features of Gatorpeeps is the community and you can find popular communities or you could even start one yourself. To join a community or start your own you simply enter the community name with a hashtag (e.g. #peeps) anywhere in your update comment. If the community exists you’ll be added to it and if it doesn’t you’ll become the owner of that community.

Owning a community means that you can add a profile image, enter a descriptive text and even link to another site that relates to the community.

Gatorpeeps has a very extensive Tools Section that includes applications for iPhone and Android mobile devices, Twitter integration, plugins for Wordpress, desktop applications and the all important API documentation so that developers can develop their own applications.
